Cataract Surgery

See Clearly, Live Fully

Cataracts are a common part of the aging process, but they don’t have to interfere with your quality of life. Mr Vig’s team specialise in modern, minimally invasive cataract surgery using the latest techniques and technology to restore your vision and help you get back to the things you enjoy. We believe cataract surgery is more than a routine procedure: it’s a life-changing opportunity to upgrade your vision. Whether you want to reduce your dependence on glasses, correct astigmatism, or enjoy clearer vision at all distances, we offer premium options that go beyond traditional cataract surgery.

What Is a Cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. The lens helps focus light on the retina, allowing us to see clearly. As we age, the lens can become cloudy, making it harder to see. This common condition typically develops with age, but can also result from genetics, trauma, medications, or medical conditions like diabetes.

Common Symptoms:

  • Blurred or cloudy vision

  • Difficulty seeing at night or in low light

  • Glare and halos around lights (especially at night)

  • Faded or yellowed colours

  • Frequent changes in glasses or contact lens prescriptions

When Should You Consider Cataract Surgery?

Cataracts usually develop slowly and may not disturb your vision early on. But over time, they can make daily tasks like reading, exercising or driving difficult or even unsafe. Surgery is recommended when your cataracts begin to affect your vision and interfere with daily life:

  • You struggle with night driving or reading

  • Your glasses or contact lenses no longer improve your vision

  • You experience frequent changes in prescription

  • You’re missing out on activities due to poor eyesight

Mr Vig will help you determine the best time to proceed based on your symptoms, lifestyle, and overall eye health.

What Does Cataract Surgery Involve?

Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed - and most successful - procedures worldwide. 95% of patients have improved vision after their surgery.

The Procedure:

  • Performed as day case surgery, usually under local anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation

  • The cloudy natural lens is gently removed using phacoemulsification (ultrasound technology)

  • A clear intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted in its place

  • Surgery typically takes less than 30 minutes per eye.

You’ll remain comfortable during the procedure, and most patients go home shortly afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Mr Vig offers the full range of modern lenses and will guide you through the choices.

During your consultation, we’ll help you choose the best lens option based on your eye measurements, lifestyle, and visual preferences.

After Surgery: Recovery & Results

Most patients notice significantly clearer vision within a few days of surgery. Full healing typically takes a couple of weeks, but you can usually return to most normal activities within a few days. Post-op treatment includes:

  • Prescription eye drops (to prevent infection and reduce inflammation)

  • Instructions on things to avoid in the few days after your surgery

  • Follow-up visits to monitor healing and vision improvement

You may experience mild irritation, dryness, or light sensitivity initially, but these side effects resolve quickly for the vast majority of patients.

Risks & Considerations

Cataract surgery is very safe, but like any procedure, there are some risks. These may include:

  • Infection

  • Swelling

  • Retinal detachment (rare)

  • Glare or halos

  • Posterior capsule opacification (can be treated with a quick, painless laser procedure)

  • Approximately 1/1000 people will have a problem that leads to vision loss

Mr Vig will discuss all risks and benefits with you during your pre-operative consultation and answer any questions you have.
